Smoothing treatments: Our services and FAQs
13.04.2026
If you love your natural texture but would like hair that feels smoother, looks shinier, and is easier to style day to day, smoothing treatments could be a great option for you. At Collinge & Co, our smoothing services are designed to reduce frizz and improve manageability, helping hair look polished for weeks or even months.
In this guide, we’ll explain what smoothing treatments are, who they're most suitable for, and the options available at our salons.
What are smoothing treatments?
Smoothing treatments are professional, in-salon services that use biotechnological formulas to temporarily adjust the structure of the hair. Unlike traditional straightening services that permanently change the hair’s texture and structure, smoothing treatments are designed to improve manageability and smoothness while still allowing you to wear your hair with its natural movement.
In most cases, smoothing treatments can help to smooth the hair fibre, reduce frizz and flyaways, improve manageability and ease of styling, and enhance shine and overall hair appearance.
One of the key benefits is versatility. You can continue to wear your hair with its natural texture, but it should feel softer and easier to work with. Or, if you prefer a sleek finish, you can blow-dry it straight for a smooth, polished look.
Depending on the treatment selected and your hair type, results can last anywhere from around six shampoos to up to six months.
Who are smoothing treatments for?
Smoothing treatments may be a good option if you notice frizz (especially in humid weather), spend a lot of time styling each day, or you would like your waves or curls to feel softer and be easier to manage. They’re also a great choice if you want flexibility: you can enjoy a smoother natural finish, or a sleek blow-dry when you feel like it.
If your hair is thicker or coarser, a smoothing treatment can help with day-to-day manageability, while still keeping movement and versatility.
Smoothing treatments can be tailored to a wide range of hair types, from fine hair that is prone to frizz through to thicker, more textured hair.
During a consultation, your stylist will assess your hair type and condition, talk through the result you would like, and recommend the most suitable option for your routine and how long you’d like your results to last.

Choosing the right smoothing treatment for you
If you are unsure which option is best, your stylist will guide you at consultation. As a simple starting point, a Beauty/Quick Fix service is ideal if you’d like a shorter-term refresh or you’re trying a smoothing treatment for the first time.
If you’d like medium-term frizz control and flexibility in how you wear your hair, an Express/Reset service is often a great fit. And if you have medium to coarse hair and you’re looking for the longest-lasting results, an Excellence service may be the best option.

FAQs
What is the difference between a smoothing and a straightening service?
Smoothing treatments are designed to reduce frizz, soften the hair fibre, and improve manageability, without permanently changing your hair texture. You can still wear your natural movement, or choose a sleeker blow-dry when you want it. Traditional straightening services typically aim to permanently change the shape of the hair.
How long will my smoothing treatment last?
It depends on the service chosen and your hair type. Some treatments are designed as a short-term refresh (for example, up to six shampoos). Others can last for several months, with our longest-lasting options typically lasting around 4–6 months.
How old do I need to be for a smoothing treatment?
Due to Health & Safety regulations we cannot undertake any colour work or any other technical services including smoothing on persons under the age of 16. If you’re under 16 and are wishing to explore treatments to smooth your hair, you may wish to explore our Wella Ultimate Smooth salon treatment
How can I book a smoothing service?
You can book a consultation online or contact your preferred salon to arrange a consultation and choose the right smoothing option for your hair.
