Your New Year Hair Care Routine for Healthy Hair

19.01.2024

Fashion experts tell us there is a focus on strong, healthy, shiny hair for the year to come in 2024, but what can you do if your hair is not in great condition? There are many factors that affect the health of your hair, such as the weather, genetics, age, general health, environment and medication. You can’t control all of these, but you can control your diet, your hair care routine and regular trims and choice of styling products.

Three step guide to healthy hair

1.

Hair health starts from within, so choose a diet rich in all the nutrients that healthy hair and scalp needs. A good balance should include protein, vitamins and minerals. Make sure you include foods rich in vitamins A,B,C,D and E as well as iron, zinc and selenium.

Leafy vegetables kale and broccoli

Leafy green vegetables such as kale, spinach, Swiss chard, broccoli and bok choy are rich with Vitamins A and C. Vitamin A, also known as retinol, helps create new hair cells and also helps the body produce sebum. Sebum helps moisturize the scalp and maintain healthy hair follicles.

2.

Like cleansing your skin, cleansing your hair is one of the most important steps in your hair care routine. Choose your shampoo carefully to suit your hair type, condition and your lifestyle. For example harsh shampoos can dry out the hair stripping it of its natural oils and raising the cuticles. This has the effect of making hair look dry and lifeless, it also causes colour to fade quicker. Collinge & Co has three sulphate free shampoos specifically formulated to be kind to your hair. They use coconut and fruit sugars to gently cleanse your hair. We recommend

Gentle shampoo for damaged hair, fine hair or if you like to wash your hair more frequently, Moisturising shampoo for hair that is coarse or coloured and Purple shampoo if you want to brighten white, grey, bleached or highlighted hair. There is also a Deep Cleansing shampoo which should be used if your hair is clogged with products, toxins or chemicals such as chlorine. If you’re unsure try taking our hair care quiz which will guide you through questions and provide you with your unique hair care prescription including shampoo, conditioners and styling products. Collinge & Co conditioners help to restore moisture to the hair and protect colour. Choose Lightweight if your hair is fine or delicate and Moisturising Conditioner for all other hair types.

We strongly recommend using a hair mask once a week. Think of this as extra nutrition for the hair. Collinge & Co Hair Treat is packed with healthy ingredients such as Argan, jojoba and sunflower seed oils, soy and wheat proteins and antioxidants. Together these will rehydrate hair, protect colour, improve shine and manageability and help prevent split ends.

Collinge & Co Hair Treat

To get the best results - apply to damp hair. Hair Treat has a thick, rich, creamy constituency so you will need to rake it through your hair using your fingers or a wide-toothed comb to make sure all the hair is coated. If you have a dry scalp use a gentle massage technique, alternatively leave on for a few minutes before rinsing to allow your hair to soak up all the goodness.

3.

Although hair grows from the root, it’s from the ends that it can fade away and break. Therefore a regular trim is important as it will keep the ends of the hair blunt and strong, resulting in thicker, healthier hair that will ultimately grow longer quicker.

Also consider which styling products are best for your hair. Look for products which contain heat and UV protection, such as Collinge & Co Blow Dry Lotion, as well as being careful not to excessively use heated styling tools which can lead to damaged hair. .

Blow drying hair directing air down the cuticle

A top tip when blow drying is to always use a nozzle on your hair dryer and direct the warm air parallel to the hair shaft, making sure you do not actually touch the hair. This technique will help ensure the cuticles that cover the strands of hair remain closed, resulting in a smooth finish that encourages shine
