Ballet Buns, Butterfly Bobs and Blow-Outs: Our Spring/Summer 2024 Trend Report

12.03.2024

January to April is such an exciting time in hair, fashion and beauty. From New York and Paris Fashion Week to the Oscars, BAFTAs and Brits, beautiful hair is everywhere!

One of our favourite hobbies is tracking trends, whether that's on the runways and red carpets or on social media. So, to bring you the best hair inspiration for this spring season, here are our trend observations for Spring 2024!

Big blow-outs

Move over curly blows, the bouncy-blow is back! What is the difference, you may ask? Well, you might know a bouncy-blow as a 90s blowout, characterised by big layers and even bigger volume. Very Cindy Crawford-Esque, these styles are universally flattering and can be obtained both in salon and at home. This style can be created using heatless curlers, but to get maximum volume and bounciness, we prefer blow-drying and rollers.

Don't forget, heat protectant is ESSENTIAL when creating styles with heat. For light hold, heat protection and a little extra volume, we use Blow Dry Lotion when creating this style.

Butterfly bobs

Butterfly bobs, kitty cat bobs, lobs etc etc. If you're a TikTok user, we're sure you're well acquainted with these terms. In essence, this style is a long, layered bob (hence 'lob'). Think of it as the shorter sister of the 90s blowout. Worn and adored by Zendaya amongst other stars, this style is fun yet sophisticated. If you're not ready to commit to a full chop, maybe give a long bob a try.

Again, Blow Dry Lotion is the star of the show for us when styling long bobs. If you want a bit more hold and texture, you could also finish your look with Firm Hold Hairspray or a touch of Gel Definer

Sleek styles

Confession: We adore a sleek, shiny up-do. Sleek dos have been dominating fashion for a while, but with a bigger focus on wearability and replicability. Sleek ponies and ballet buns are perfect examples of relatively low effort, everyday styles that you might want to recreate at home. As a society, we're also becoming more conscious of our health and especially our hair health. We've seen some ingenious ways of combining sleek styles with hair treatments, such as hair masks and oils.

We might be biased, but we think our Gel Definer is perfect for those ultra-sleek, smooth styles. For the health-conscious amongst you, consider using Hair Treat as a leave-in treatment and styling product.

Mini-braids

We’ve seen a big resurgence in 90s hair, including microbraids, butterfly clips, layered bobs and chunky highlights. It’s no surprise that these styles have found their way back into festival hair over the past few years, We loved these braided front-pieces seen on Kesha.

Always a favourite amongst festivalgoers, braids are a simple and versatile style that can be easily dressed up with ribbons, glitter, bows and more. They’re also a perfect way of getting your hair up and away from your face, perfect for those warmer (or windier!) days. We love these mini braids seen on Anya Taylor Joy at Glastonbury, which demonstrate how you can keep your hair out of your face whilst still keeping it down.

Braids are also perfect for prepping your hair for future festival days, adding some texture and wave if you leave it in all day or night.

Sleek up-dos

It’s no secret that we’ve been fans of super sleek hairstyles this year, so it’s a given that they’d be one of our favourite festival styles. They’re easy to create, maintain and adapt to your style, so they’re a winner in our books.

They’re also a great option for later festival days when your hair might not be as fresh as you’d like. Hair that's less clean or prepped with products is a good base for up-dos as it has more grip, so consider planning a hair-up day on a multi-day festival.

Beachy waves

Beachy waves are an absolute festival classic and can be created without heat, making them perfect for festival camping. They’re perfect for that boho-chic, effortlessly cool look that goes so well with mini braids, hats and other accessories. For a low-effort beachy wave without heat, you can braid your hair

You can also leave in braids to create a soft wave, which is great for prepping your hair for the next festival day.

Accessories

Accessories are another staple of festival fashion. Florence Pugh was spotted bringing back the oversized flower crown, and oversized bows were seen on many performers and festival goers. As we said in our Festival Hair Survival Kit, hair accessories are a must-pack for us as they’re easy to pack and make dressing up simpler styles effortless. Cowboy hats are also here to stay! As seen on Shania, Megan Fox and Paris Hilton, cowboy hats and Western influences are very popular this festival season. They’re perfect for keeping you cool on hotter days, enhancing your outfit and covering your roots if your hair has lost some volume/isn’t as fresh.

Another reason we love cowboy hats, and oversized hats in general, is that they provide additional protection for your hair, scalp and skin against the sun’s UV rays.
