Your New Year Routine for Healthy Hair

12.01.2026

2026 is all about strong, healthy, shiny hair. But what if your hair isn't quite there yet? There are so many factors that affect your hair's health: weather, genetics, age, general health, environment and even medication. You can't control all of these, but you can control your diet, your hair care routine, regular trims and your choice of styling products.

In this blog, we’ll break down three of our top tips that you can implement now to help achieve your best, healthiest hair.

Three Steps to Healthy Hair

1. Nourish from within

Healthy hair starts from the inside out. A diet rich in all the nutrients your hair and scalp need makes a real difference. Focus on a good balance of protein, vitamins and minerals - particularly vitamins A, B, C, D and E, along with iron, zinc and selenium.

Leafy green vegetables like kale, spinach, swiss chard, broccoli and bok choy are packed with Vitamins A and C. Vitamin A (also known as retinol) helps create new hair cells and supports sebum production. Sebum is your scalp's natural moisturiser, keeping hair follicles healthy and your hair looking its best.

2. Choose the right hair care

Just like cleansing your skin, cleansing your hair is one of the most important steps in your routine. The key is choosing a shampoo that suits your hair type, condition and lifestyle. Harsh shampoos can strip your hair of its natural oils and raise the cuticles leaving hair looking dry and lifeless, as well as causing colour to fade quicker.

Collinge & Co has three sulphate-free shampoos specifically formulated to be kind to your hair, which use coconut and fruit sugars to gently cleanse without stripping. Here's what we recommend:

Not sure which is right for you? Take our hair care quiz, which will guide you through a few questions and provide your unique hair care prescription, including shampoo, conditioners and styling products.

Our conditioners help restore moisture and protect your colour. Choose Lightweight Conditioner if your hair is fine or delicate, and Moisturising Conditioner for all other hair types.

We strongly recommend using a hair mask once a week - think of it as extra nutrition for your hair. Collinge & Co Hair Treat is packed with healthy ingredients: Argan, jojoba and sunflower seed oils, soy and wheat proteins, and antioxidants. Together, they rehydrate hair, protect colour, improve shine and manageability, and help prevent split ends.

For the best results, apply Hair Treat to damp hair. It has a thick, rich, creamy consistency, so you'll need to rake it through your hair using your fingers or a wide-toothed comb to make sure every strand is coated. If you have a dry scalp, use a gentle massage technique. Otherwise, leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing to let your hair soak up all the goodness.

3. Protect and style

Although hair grows from the root, it's the ends that fade and break first. Regular trims are essential as they keep the ends blunt and strong, resulting in thicker, healthier hair.

When it comes to styling, look for products with heat and UV protection, like Collinge & Co Blow Dry Lotion. Be mindful when using heated styling tools, as excessive heat can lead to damaged hair.

Top tip for blow drying: Always use a nozzle on your hair dryer and direct the warm air parallel to the hair shaft (without actually touching the hair). This technique helps keep the cuticles that cover your hair strands closed, resulting in a smooth, shiny finish.
